    October 20, 2018, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Churchville Schoolhouse and Fischer Farm

    Saturday, October 20 Haunted History Time: 6-8 p.m. Explore the creepy side of Victorian history! The adventure starts at historic Fischer Farm with a hayride to Churchville Schoolhouse to learn about eerie 19th-century postmortem photography, strange Victorian mourning traditions, and 1870s cemetery symbols. A lantern-lit walk through Churchville Cemetery and Fischer Woods back to the farm follows for tours and local ghost stories. Guests can share spooky stories around the fire with hot cider and s’mores. NOTE: Age 14+ only. Participants must be able to traverse uneven terrain in low light and sign a waiver. Location: Fischer Farm, 16W680 Grand Ave., Bensenville Cost: $25 per person Registration required: In person at Bensenville Park District, 1000 W. Wood St., Bensenville or call 630-766-7015.

    New original exhibit! Take a nostalgic trip to the glory days of roller skating to learn about the "rink rats"—the regulars at the legendary skating venues with names like The Elm, Arcadia, Riverview, Lombard, The Savoy, and others in the “Golden Era” of roller skating. Hear first-person accounts from skaters and view images and eclectic artifacts, from skating jackets and gear to competition medals, posters, and memorabilia. Inspired by the book by author and skater Tom Russo.

  2. Fall Art Exhibition to Feature Works By Jeanine Coupe Ryding

    August 10, 2018 - November 10, 2018 @ Elmhurst College

    Artist Jeanine Coupe Ryding is best known for her richly layered, inventive, and often monumental, woodcut prints. Her forms and color record her observations of nature and of daily life, described in her expressive gestural cutting into the wood block plate. Elmhurst College will present “Coda for the Day,” an exhibition of her work, beginning on Aug 15. Her exhibition comprises a selection of 15 large-scale relief prints, 11 artist books and eight collages from the last 10 years. The exhibition is curated by Doug Stapleton, associate curator of art at the Illinois State Museum. “I am thrilled to host this exhibition of Jeanine Coupe Ryding’s work curated by Doug Stapleton,” said Suellen Rocca, curator and director of exhibits at Elmhurst Collee. “Both the curator and artist will discuss the exhibition at the public reception, which should provide great insight into the work.” Ryding's prints and artist books are in museum and private collections throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan.

  5. Holiday Tree Sale Benefiting Education

    Be a part of this charming Elmhurst tradition and decorate your front yard with a festive balsam tree purchased from the District 205 Foundation’s holiday tree sale fundraiser. Neighborhood outdoor tree group orders of four or more will be delivered free of charge in late November. Tree pick up in early December. Beautiful assortment of indoor trees also available. Proceeds help fund educational enhancements and programs that benefit the students of Elmhurst Public Schools.

    The 8th Annual World Music Festival at Elmhurst College comes home this year, with a main concert on Oct. 27 titled Celebrate Blues and Jazz—The Music of America. The main concert features selections from Eddie Sauter’s Focus for tenor saxophone and strings, and Corky Siegel’s Symphonic Blues No. 6 for harmonica, bongo and symphony orchestra. Featured performers include Corky Siegel, jazz saxophonist Mark Colby, tabla player Kalyan Pathak and the Elmhurst College Philharmonic Orchestra.
