This summer, EHM is presenting of a variety of interesting online lectures, gallery talks, and other engaging programs plus a safely-distanced walking/biking tour, scavenger hunt, and a portable version of our Museum Maker Monday programs. Online #TBT Lecture--Take Your Best Travel Photos

Summer travel plans may have been upended this year, but you can still learn how to take great vacation photos for your next adventure. Join professional photographer Kimberly Felten for an online program as she shares some of her best personal photos and discusses useful tools and techniques to take memorable travel photos. This program will be available through Oct. 11.

Online Lecture--Along the Way: Midwest Road Sides and Rest Stops

Join Illinois historian Joanna Dowling for a trip through the Midwest via some of the regions lesser-recognized roadside rest stops and waysides. Learn about the past and present of the non-commercial places to stop along the heartland's highways including Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and a few other remote spots. Program is available through Oct. 11.

Travel Photo Contest
June 1-August 31 FREE

Bring back special memories of past vacations by participating in our online Travel Photo Contest! Simply e-mail a digital copy of your favorite or best vacation photo with your name, email, phone number, and a brief description of where the photo was taken to: ehmprograms@elmhurst.org. Only one admission per person will be accepted. Photos will be considered by a panel of community judges, and the top three entries will win a special gift basket of items from local businesses. Entries will be shared on social media and web site.

Museum Maker Mondays Kits
Monday, August 10
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  FREE

Join us for our final Museum Maker Monday of the summer! Kids can choose the following Museum Maker Monday kits this month: Humming Toys, Soil Sammies, Paper Tulips, and Pine Cone Spiders. Kids and a caregiver can stop by our outdoor table at our Education Center to pick up a free kit. Limit one kit per child, while supplies last.


Facebook Live concert with Chris Vallillo--By Thy Rivers Gently Flowing, Illinois in Her Own Words

Join us on Facebook for a live-streamed concert featuring Chris Vallillo, a singer/songwriter and roots musician who makes the people and places of “unmetropolitan” America come to life in song. In celebration of our state’s 200+-year history, Vallillo will perform songs, poems and stories by the Prairie State’s best-loved authors, songwriters and poets to give voice to the story of Illinois. This program is supported by the Illinois Arts Council, Illinois Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

Join us live on Zoom for a discussion of John Steinbeck’s 1962 novel chronicling the author’s memorable road trip across the country with his French poodle, Charley, as he reflected on America’s character. Co-presented by Elmhurst Public Library and Elmhurst History Museum in connection with The Great Midwestern Road Trip exhibit. Appropriate for adults. 

Elmhurst Outdoor History Tours 
If a hometown stay-cation is in the plans this summer, no worries—the Elmhurst History Museum has some local adventures in store. Take a tour of Elmhurst, either on foot or two wheels, and try out a fun plaque scavenger hunt to share with family and friends while adhering to safe social distancing. Stop by our front porch to pick up a map/info sheet or download below. 

Elmhurst Walking & Biking Tours
Embark on a local biking or walking tour that takes a 5K loop through Elmhurst pointing out interesting historical places and sights along the way. DOWNLOAD MAP HERE

Bronze Plaque Adventure Scavenger Hunt
Take a trip through time and learn a little local history while searching for Elmhurst treasures captured in bronze (and stone). Look for clues at each location and fill in the answers to become an Elmhurst history detective. Appr. 1.5-mile loop through downtown Elmhurst, starts and ends at EHM. DOWNLOAD MAP/CLUES HERE
